In this story we follow Riley and her parents as they adventure to a new home in San Francisco. Everything is changing for Riley in a world she once felt comfortable in. We meet Joy, Disgust, Sadness, Fear and Anger who help pilot Riley’s emotions. Joy is a big player in Riley’s emotions as she is naturally a happy 11 year old girl, of course with help from Joy. This was a cute interpretation of how emotions work from a unique perspective. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could control our emotions with a switch board like they do in the movie?
Riley has it pretty tough where she doesn’t know what to expect when she reaches her new home, she was born and raised in Minnesota so thats all she knows. This story is mainly about the struggle she goes through after a horrible mistake happens in the control room. Riley must face a new school, make new friends and more importantly grow up.
Keke and I both agree this was a cute movie, it was a great interpretation of how our emotions work and how they could be viewed from a child’s eyes. The movie really did explore our emotions in a funny way that most of us can relate to. Although sadness really frustrated us during the movie, at the end you are able to fully understand what the purpose of her actions were. This movie was a great animation of how we grow up and an is interpreted in a super funny way!
“Sorry this is SORT of a Spoiler” As a mom I felt as though this movie did a great job at explaining what happens to someone when you bottle up your feelings. What I believe is trying to be voiced in this movie is that you shouldn’t hide your feelings and should embrace them. I felt like by Riley letting go of the old parts of her, (even though in the movie she doesn’t electively choose to do so) she was able to evolve into a newer Riley which combined all of the things she loved. Which in any case is what ALL of us do as we grow up.
TWO THUMBS UP!
This is a great movie for kids 8 years and older! Watch it in theaters starting tomorrow Friday, June 19th!
