Dreamworks and Universal Studios Abominable film hit theatres last weekend. My family was treated to the 4DX Experience at Regal Cinemas in Washington DC. There is so much to say about this film I am more than excited to share my review and experience.
Last Sunday the girls and I adventured in the Captial to catch the wonderfully captivating film ‘Abominable‘ in 4DX. Hands down one of my family’s newest favorite animated films, this beautifully told story will warm your heart. This family-friendly film sent my girls into waves of laughter and made this mom giggle throughout the entire film. If you are looking for a family-friendly comedy this is the film for you.
About The Film Abominable
DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio’s co-production Abominable takes audiences on an epic 2,000-mile adventure from the streets of a Chinese city to the breathtaking Himalayan snowscapes.
When teenage Yi (Chloe Bennet, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building, she and her friends, Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Albert Tsai), name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth.
But the trio of friends will have to stay one step ahead of Burnish (Eddie Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Sarah Paulson) to help Everest get home.
Abominable Film Review (Spoiler Alert!)
Going into the film my girls and I only knew that the film involved a girl who played the violin and a magical Yeti. Not only were we blown away by the story that unfolded before us. We were blown away by the character’s growth throughout the film and the musicality of this feature.
In the beginning, we find this young girl name Yi who seems to be very to herself. A hard-working young woman who is saving up for a trip she plans to take one day across China. For a moment we watch as she plays her violin which by the way is amazing! Tying in that beautiful Asian culture with the beautiful sounds of the violin, you are taken through a time machine as you listen to Yi play her violin on the rooftop.
When Yi meets her new friend ‘Everest’ (The magical Yeti) and learns he has escaped the clutches of Burnish and Dr. Zara. A wealthy man who is intent on sharing his proof that Yeti’s exist, and a greedy scientist who only wants the reward money for this discovery. Yi sets out to help Everest get home to his family in the Himalayas. With the surprising help of her friends Jin and Peng, this group of friends adventures 2,000 miles across China. This trip isn’t without its challenges, as Burnish and Dr. Zara the greedy scientists are hot on their trail.
I loved watching this group of friends as they go from barely speaking to each other, to remembering why they all became friends in the first place. As the story unfold’s we learn that Yi has lost her father and was the inspiration behind her love of playing the Violin. While Everest helps Yi find the joy and love of playing her violin again, Jin and Peng grow closer as cousins and friends.
I absolutely loved this film and would recommend it for any family looking for good clean humor and adventure. This epic adventure was grand yet didn’t throw my girls off. It was easy to follow the story that I honestly can’t wait to hit DVD so I can own it for myself.
There are some super hilarious scenes that I won’t spoil for you, lets just say blueberries are an inside joke with my girls and me now. The ending was wonderful and really left you with a warm feeling in your heart. Age-appropriate for my girls who are 6-10 years old and humor was perfect for all ages. I totally was laughing the loudest of my family in the theatre, sorry for embarrassing you girls but this film was awesome!
Abominable 4DX Experience
This was a special experience as the girls and I were able to fly on coy fish clouds. Ride a magical boat in a sea of leaves and grass. We jumped across buildings and danced with the dancing trees and Yi played her violin. Never an overwhelming experience but a full experience when it came to feel as though we were apart of the movie. At one point you will be in the first person as the Yeti escapes the lab, the girls loved that part!
AMAZING is all I can say when it comes to the 4DX experience, 2 thumbs up from my girls and I!
