Grab your picnic baskets! It’s time to host your very own backyard picnic featuring the foods your family loves. No need to leave home for this bunch of fun, just pick a date and then prep your picnic baskets. A fun way to jazz up the backyard picnic fun is by picking a theme that requires you to dress up to attend.
For our most recent backyard picnic, it was Esuun’s turn to pick the theme, she chose “Magical”. Anything to do with magic was accepted and unicorn clothing was encouraged. While I lacked anything to do with unicorns in my wardrobe, Esuun seems to have won the best-dressed award.
Our Picnic Menu
We had the sweets portion of our backyard picnic totally covered! Along with some homemade parfaits using Yoplait Original, that oh my gosh it’s so easy to make you won’t believe your eyes, we dined on some of the girl’s classic favorites. Yoplait Original is a Good source of Calcium and Vitamin D.
Made with no artificial colors or flavors, and real fruit, Yoplait Original has Individual serving size cups with flavor’s everyone in the family will love! KeKe’s favorite flavor will always be Strawberry. Esuun’s favorite is almost every flavor you can imagine in Go-GURT. For this picnic however she had her eyes on the Strawberry Splash. Not pictured is Esuun doing 10 flips in a row after she has consumed her favorite Go-GURT.
There is nothing wrong with keeping things simple when it comes to sandwiches. I’ve learned that taking a simple sandwich and just added some delicious spread and a few veggies can make a world of a difference. For example, I just discovered the BLTA sandwich, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and pesto sauce on ciabatta bread. It’s got so much flavor even my 11-year-old loves it.
Strawberry lemonade is a classic summertime drink staple in my home, sometimes I make it from scratch and other days I buy it from the store. Depending on the time I have to put this picnic together really depends on if I go fresh or premade. If you are looking for short cuts then grab your favorite brands strawberry lemonade! It’s totally worth it to go premade when you looking for easy ways to put together your picnic.
Tips For Stress-Free Backyard Picnic’s
- Finger Foods. Skipping foods that require utensils will save you loads of time in the kitchen and is way less stressful when picnicking. I always choose finger foods for my kids just because using utensils can make things more complicated than they need to be. Unless you’re eating your favorite yogurt of course! Then you will need a sturdy spoon to grab all of that delicious flavor.
- Freeze and Thaw ahead of time. We all know Go-GURT is famous for its portability. I take advantage of this by freezing my Go-GURT ahead of time and then just pull them out when I’m setting up my basket. By the time the picnic area is set up our Go-GURT’s are thawed and at that perfect cool temperature, we are looking for while dining outside.
- Designated Picnic Blanket. I like to choose one designated blanket in the house for our picnic’s, this helps minimize the need to store extras as well as makes for easy cleanup. After the picnic is over I just throw the blanket into the washer and boom cleanup is done in a snap.
- Cold Sandwiches. Along with finger foods I like to provide cold sandwiches that are small enough to fit in little hands, yet packed full of flavor. It’s amazing what adding a little pesto can do to a normal BLT Sandwich.
Easy Yoplait Fruit and Yogurt Parfait
All you need is your favorite fruits, granola, and Yoplait Original yogurt. Starting at the bottom you will add a solid base of yogurt which will depend on how big your serving dish is. Once you have the bottom layer of yogurt added gently spoon in your favorite fruits. Repeat adding the Yoplait Original yogurt and fruit until you reach the top.
Generously coat the top with your favorite granola, don’t be shy you can add as much as you like. If you are a huge granola fan you can add granola to the layers inside the parfait for added crunch and flavor. Add a bit of honey to the top and you’ve got yourself a homemade fruit and yogurt parfait.
I hope you enjoyed our recent Backyard Picnic with Yoplait! We had so much fun and already have a few more planned for the summer. Hopefully, a few cousins can come to join us later this summer!
