Beetlejuice The Musical Review – The National Theater in DC

Read my Beetlejuice The Musical review to see why this raunchy humorous musical is making waves in my local National Theater in DC. I dared to adventure into our local theater with my bestie to see what all of this buzz was really about. Before the play started my bestie got me this yummy drink called The Ghost With The Most.

They actually had three themed drinks for guests to enjoy, and of course, I had to try one. Guests are able to sub out the alcohol for their own personal choice if the ones listed aren’t to their liking. Although I wish I could have tried all of them I was happy to gulp down The Ghost With The Most.

About Beetlejuice The Musical

It’s showtime, folks! Beetlejuice is ruder, raunchier and frankly, more repellent than ever in this original musical based on Tim Burton’s wonderfully demented film. This is the last week that Beetlejuice is playing at The National Theatre!

Directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!), Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, her new house is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon who happens to have a thing for stripes.

When Lydia calls on this ghost-with-the-most to scare away her insufferable parents, Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, which involves exorcism, arranged marriages and an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits. Get tickets now to Beetlejuice – hell, bring the whole family! We’ve got plenty of 4-letter words that your kids will love.

My Beetlejuice Musical Reivew

If you are a big fan of musicals then hands down you need to see this performance. The actual script is not for the faint-hearted and includes some humor that others might find Crood.

I found it fit for a mature audience, so if you are planning to bring your kids, the flyer to the performance gives you a fair warning that there will be cussing. As well as some humor that might make even this 28-year-old blush.

Beetlejuice Musical at The National Theater in DC

This story is a twist on the classic movie from 1988, which in my die-hard fan self-did not mind at all. The characters are all still the same but the storyline had some fun twists and turns.

I liked how we got to adventure more into the relationship between Lydia and her father. As well as hear a little bit more about how Lydia felt about her mom passing away.

There was also an added bonus that they made sure to put in some of those iconic characters we all have grown to love. Such as the man who got run over, the shrunken head man, the woman who smokes through her neck and even the basketball team!

The music was wonderful and I even caught myself dancing in my seat during some of the numbers. I may or may have screamed out a few times because I was enjoying the performance so much.

Lydia played by Sophia Anne Caruso had a stunning performance as she sang her sad little heart out. I loved her the most during this play as her voice is amazing!

Beetlejuice The Musical Staring Alex Brightman

Beetlejuice played by Alex Brightman did an amazing job at making me hate him yet love him. He took the Beetlejuice I grew up with and made him more modern, likable, even more disgusting, and of course more hilarious.

Alex nailed it with his performance and made me laugh so hard and also say “Oh no he didn’t!”. The whole cast did an amazing job, even Barbra and Adam were wonderful as they stayed that same wonderful in love couple.

Barbra was a ton of fun and had some really funny lines, as well as musical numbers that really showed off Kerry Butler’s voice. Rob McClure as Adam was a perfect fit, as this geeky wannabe dad sang some wonderful numbers and gave everyone some good laughs.

The National Theater in DC

Overall my opinion is, of course, to see this musical! If you can’t catch it at the National Theater in DC before Nov 18th. Make sure you catch it on Broadway as it’s on its way thereafter they finish up in DC. So exciting for them and so well deserved! Purchase Your Tickets Here!
