Hey mommas! If your like me and breastfeeding your bundle of joy you may have encountered or are encountering right now (which is what lead you to this post) the ever dreaded CRACKED NIPPLE(S)!!
Now aside from this being one of the most painful things aside from having your bundle of joy, this pain for myself was ranked 9 out of 10 on the hurts like -the dickens!- scale. The most painful part has to be the actual feeding which I DO NOT SUGGEST YOU STOP! This will lead to a clogged milk duct which is also a very painful occurrence but can happen for a number of reasons as well. One thing you have to take form this post is ITS NORMAL! Happens because of a few reasons, either it being very cold and your little one latching on wrong or maybe just from them latching on wrong period. In my opinion it seems as though it sprang from no where.
But let’s not spend our time worrying about how this has happened and let’s move on to how to heal this painful episode. There’s 2 things that I have found to be the best remedies for this and they didn’t cost me a dime!
The best remedy I found was to use my actual breast milk! Yes I said it, use yourself to heal yourself. This worked so well I was dumbfounded as to how I didn’t think of this first before I spent over an hour researching holistic remedies.
Your body has a natural healing component that heals and comforts your body the same way a store bought cream does. You just express your milk and rub it on your nipple as many times as possible during the day. When your little one feeds leave the expressed milk so that your body can heal.
Use coconut oil. Wow right? If you haven’t used this before they sell nice decent size jars for $5-$6 at Walmart or online which are more then enough of what you need to solve this pesky problem. I happened to cook with the oil so I was happy to come across this method. Take a nice amount of the oil and spread it on your entire nipple. Apply generously and use as much as you want. The flavor won’t effect your baby, if anything my baby liked it and always gave me a little smile when she began to feed.
Use these methods together as much and as often as you wish until the problem is solved. You should see results within 1-3 days. I was completely healed within 2 days using these two methods together.
