It’s that time of the year again! The airwaves are filled with Christmas music and the stores are bright and jolly with holiday themed decorations and goodies. Surprise your family with these cute Christmas Themed Cake Pops!
Making these cake pops are so easy, you will wonder why you haven’t done them sooner. I know that’s exactly what I thought when I was making them. It’s so much fun to make these. In this post, I decided to make some Chocolate Bomb Cake Pops that basically MELT in your mouth as soon as you bite into them. I couldn’t leave it just at that though. I went ahead and did a butter cake version as well, just to show yall how easy this was to do.
The secret to a moist cake pop? Well, I’m sure after this post it won’t be so secret anymore since I’m sure you will be sharing this with everyone you know. I know I did when I finished this recipe. There are many debates about whether you should use a from scratch recipe or boxed caked. I honestly don’t see the difference so I went ahead and used a boxed cake. The boxed cake was on sale as well as the frosting. In this recipe, you will NEED the frosting so it was such a great deal in my opinion.
Ready for the secret? It’s in the frosting. No, seriously it’s in the frosting! Crumbling your fully cooked and cooled caked, and adding almost the entire frosting container, makes these magical cake pops. YEP, I told you, Easy Peasy! Now go run and tell your family, OR keep it a secret and just let them ask you over and over again if you really made those cake pops, or if you ordered them.
Now dipping these cake pops is another story, you will need the proper tools to do so. My tip when it comes to dipping is use plastic cups! That way you can just toss the cup at the end, and skip the whole cleaning process I tend to go through. Picking the perfect chocolate is very important.
I used melting chips from Wilson, which I found at my local craft store. You can find these in many other places, including online retailers. I found a sale near me and loaded up for enough to create oh so many cake pops.
The important thing is to have fun! Once you crumble your cake and add your frosting, you will then form balls and place them on a lined baking sheet. I was able to make more than I can count cake balls from just 1 box of cake. I made both chocolate and butter vanilla so you can only image the amount of cake pops I had to make lol. Once the cake pops have been freezed for minimum of 30 minutes you will then pull them out and place them on the table. You need to dip a stick or decorative straw, in your choice in color of melting chocolate.
Then place the stick about half way into the cake pop. Pop back into the freezer. A step that is super important in making these is that you must freeze the pops for a minimum of 30 minutes before you dip them. The longer you freeze them the more likely they will not fall off the stick when you are dipping them into the melted chocolate.
It’s okay to fail, you can always start again with one of your 100 cake pops you have created and give it another go. Also it’s pretty delicious to dispose of those failures by popping them in your mouth or dishing them out to the wide eyed kids.
- 1 Chocolate Boxed Cake, I used Dunkin Hines Chocolate Cake
- 1 Container of Frosting, I used Dunkin Hines Rich and Creaming Milk Chocolate
- 2 Bags of White Chocolate Melts
- 2 Bags of Green Chocolate Melts
- 2 Bags of Red Chocolate Melts
- 2 Bags of Brown Chocolate Melts
- 1 Bag of Pretzels
- Candy Eyes
- Sturdy Straw's or Cake Pop Sticks
- Butter Cake Pops:
- 1 Butter Yellow Cake
- 1 Vanilla Frosting
- Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box. I used a normal baking pan. Once done, pull it out and let it cool completely.
- In a large mixing bowl, crumble the entire cake, and then adding the frosting in 1 spoonfull at a time. I used almost the entire container.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and then spray your hands with pam. Roll the mixture inito balls and then place the pan in the freezer. Let freeze for a minimum of 30 minutes.
- Melt your choice in color of chocolate in a double broiler method. I used wilson white chocolate.
- Pull your cake balls from the freezer, and then dip the stick into the chocolate and then about half way through your cake pop. When finished freeze for a minimum of 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once you have all of your different colors in chocolate melted have fun dipping and decorating your cake pops.
