It seems like every year I am making Halloween trick or treat bags for the kids to take to school, daycare parties, and more. This year I sat down with the kids and let them help me to work on these fun trick or treat bags. They had a blast, as did I, and the bags turned out great. We stuffed candy, and little Halloween themed goodies inside for the kids to hand out to their friends.

5 Benefits Of Crafting With Kids

Here are a handful of ways letting your child help make these Halloween pumpkin trick or treat bags is beneficial to them in their growth.

Following Instructions | One big area is sitting down and teaching your child to follow instructions. From cut on this dotted line to place the eyes here and glue. They learn how to listen and execute the instructions they were given.

Coordination | Hand-eye coordination is getting worked on as they cut, trace, draw, or create a craft. Great for developing and learning to master the skill!

Cutting Skills | If you have a younger child, they might benefit from learning to cut out the eyes, mouth, etc. You might have to help them depending on their age, but allowing them to have the opportunity is great to work on bettering their skills.

Visual Processing | Your child will see patterns, colors, and more to help them grow their processing abilities. When you talk about the names of pieces, what they are making, colors, and more you are working towards developing your child’s visual processing abilities which is beneficial.

Creativity | Even if the lines are slightly crooked or things are not perfect, it is ideal for your child. Giving your child the ability to have the freedom to be creative is vital. Let them choose colors, place items where they want, and use their imagination to lead them to the finished product.

There are so many benefits of craft time with kids. This just skimmed the surface, but I wanted you to see how crafts with kids help your child learn and grow. Enjoy this Halloween craft, and have fun making memories with your little ones.

  • Slotted quilling tool
  • Black sharpie (optional, in case you want to draw the eyes)
  • Template (printed)

Instructions

  1. Select orange-colored craft paper and prepare the paper bag. You can also use store-bought paper bags for this craft or make a custom-sized bag.
  2. Print out the leaves and other items from the colored template or print out the blank patterns and trace them on the craft papers of your choice. Make sure to customize the size of the template patterns for the bag before printing them.
  3. Use craft glue to stick the prepared items on the bag. Glue the top part of the stem in the middle of the paper bag’s open end. Glue the bottom part of the stem along the border of the open end (of the paper bag).
  4. Glue the leaves on both sides of the stem. Use the slotted quilling tool to create the vines from thin paper strips. Glue them on either side of the stem.
  5. Draw the eyes on 2 round cutouts from a white paper or simply print out the eyes from the template.
  6. Stick the eyes on the top side of the paper bag. Also, attach the mouth to complete the pumpkin face.
  7. Add more details if you want to and then allow the glue to dry. Enjoy!
