Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia is hosting a Taste of Virginia Food Festival event and it’s all the rave with my kids. Last weekend if you followed along on Twitter you will have seen all the amazing food options this event has to offer. This is the place to be to sample all the foods from different parts of Virginia. Virginia itself is actually huge, and with each region, you will find some delicious dishes and drinks that you could only get locally. We rode our favorite rides and got to try all kinds of delicious foods and drinks, how awesome is that?

Here is a little bit more information about the event:

Virginia is for Lovers! Whether you love food, wine, beer, or coasters… Kings Dominion’s brand new event, Taste of Virginia Food Festival, is sure to delight! North, south, east and west… we are taking you on a culinary journey through the commonwealth. Our team is whipping up recipes inspired by the various regions of Virginia. Enjoy all of this home-grown deliciousness while grooving to the sounds of the BEST local live bands. Come experience all that Taste of Virginia has to offer. Your taste buds will thank you!

I personally can say that I love to go to theme parks and try out all the different unique foods they boast. I was uber excited to attend the Taste of Virginia Food Festival since I have lived here my whole life yet still haven’t explored the whole state (I know sad guilty confession). How awesome is it to be in one location and taste the many different styles of food? I loved all of the food but I have to say you can really see the difference in each dish.

The dishes are centered around foods grown in each region which means each recipe is unique to those locations. If you are looking to taste your way through Virginia then you definitely need to visit Kings Dominion for their Taste of Virginia Food Festival. Head over HERE to read more about the event as well as all the amazing entertainment lined up to perform. Make sure you grab your tokens and head over to each of the booths to experience Virginia through your taste buds.

Hello Tokens! These babies are what you use to buy all of the delicious foods from each booth. There are so many good choices it’s very hard to just choose one from each booth. If you are like me and just cannot decide what to try first I suggest going to each booth and checking out how much each of the foods cost. I based our taste menu off of how many tokens we had, we got so much for just so little it was a blast to have a full menu for the kids to try.

Taste of Virginia Food Festival isn’t just about food yall! It’s also about tasting your way through the many spirits we have to offer. Don’t be shy and head over to the spirit’s booth and have a look at all the different types of spirits we boast. There is also a Wine section for those of you who love wine, as well as a beer section. Be sure to check the schedule HERE to find out which featured distillery will be visiting. For only 9 tokens you can score a sampler of cocktails from the featured distillery of the day. Bottom’s up, the Virginia way!

Tide Water

These dishes were definitely inspired by the abundance Tide Water offers year round. The dishes were centered around one of my favorite things to eat in this world, SEAFOOD. I love a good plate of shrimp and grits and hope you give it a try and enjoy it as much as we did.

  • Seared Oyster Cake with Bacon Aioli
  • Flounder Corn Chowder
  • Shrimp and Grits

Chesapeake

Oh Chesapeake, you seriously made me debate on just buying out the whole supply of Pecan Praline Pies you served. I held my composure yall so it’s okay! I was able to stick to my diet yet still get some good tasting in (by that I mean I had only 1 serving of everything). It’s baby steps, baby steps I tell you. I seriously loved the Pecan Praline Pie and my mom and I agreed it has to be the best slice we have ever had in our entire lives. So please make sure you visit the Chesapeake booth and try all of their food choices. Keke absolutely loved the Chesapeake Mac N’ Cheese, I think it’s going to be a highly requested dish in my home now.

  • Crispy Crabcakes
  • Chesapeake Mac N’ Cheese
  • Pecan Praline Pie

The Blue Ridge Mountains

I don’t think it’s a secret that my family and I have a huge sweet tooth, it’s something we are working on at the moment. Esuun loved the Peanut Butter Fudge with Glazed Roasted Pecans from the Blue Ridge Mountains booth. we actually were able to snag 2 pieces of fudge for her since they were only 2 tokens.

  • Brunswick Stew
  • Fried Chicken and Creamy Dumplings
  • Peanut Butter Fudge with Glazed Roasted Pecans

Colonial

Now if you grew up in my house you would understand why my family loves Williamsburg, Virginia so much. It’s something my family and I have shared and loved for as long as I can remember. I remember when I did a project of creating a colonial woman out of styrofoam with my grandmother for a school project. Colonial food is so delicious it’s hard to have just one plate of any of the foods they were offering. Malik loved the Sweet Potatoes and Roasted Duck Pullover. There may or may not have been a heated discussion (My mom yelled at me) about who ate the most of the Sweet Potatoes.

  • Sweet Potatoes and Roasted Duck Pullover
  • Smithfield Ham and Cheese Empanadas
  • Peanut Soup with Crispy Peanut Coated Onions

Piedmont

I highly recommend you try the Fried Winesap Apply Pies, oh my goodness that was one of my favorites to taste. It’s melt in your mouth good and the kids gave it a two thumbs up!

  • Biscuits with Local Apply Butter
  • Fried Winesap Apple Pies
  • Shitake Turkey Meatloaf with Country Ham Gravy

Wow, I’m hungry all over again from just sharing our photos and memories. Head over HERE to snag your tickets and purchase your tokens ahead of time. This event will be happening Every Saturday and Sunday from May 6th – 21rst. So make sure you head over there soon before those delicious foods go back home!

I am originally from Virginia, so this is near and dear to me. I would love to check it out. I am sure there are several foods that are from my home state that I have not tried.
