Thank you Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau for sponsoring this post.
Last week my family spent an amazing three days in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. It was truly one of those adventures where my 4 kids ranging in ages 5 years-old to 12 years-old had a blast. The proof is in the pudding when I say the only arguments that broke out, were related to where we were dining for each meal.
The setting for my Large Families Adventure was in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Cabarrus County is known as “Where Racing Lives,” but it has so much more than motorsports. Cabarrus County is an under-the-radar southern destination that’s easily accessible by car or plane.
After you read my full Large Families Adventure Guide to Cabarrus County – North Carolina, you will find there is so much more to this booming city then meets the eye.
As many of you who have followed my blog for some time, you know that I am a single mom of 4 children. I travel often solo with my 4 children and we go on many different adventures all over the world.
I’m always seeking large family-friendly destinations to experience with my family, as well as share with you. That’s why when I had the opportunity to partner with Visit Cabarrus County North Carolina I leaped at the opportunity to create a new adventure.
Before I jump into the guide I want to first stop and explain how much as a single mother of 4 I absolutely loved visiting here. The people, the businesses, the food, oh my goodness the food here is spectacular. As a big city girl living in Northern Virginia, the slow-paced living in this county is what the doctor called for.
I’m so used to rushing and driving in big city traffic, and rushing to make orders it really took me aback by how kind everyone was. It didn’t matter if you were pumping gas, passing by someone in a store, or making an order in a busy restaurant.
The environment and the people really make for a relaxing vacation that many of us forget to experience when we plan our family vacations. Especially a single mom such as myself who is always traveling solo with the kids.

I personally highly recommend you take your family to The Great Wolf Lodge, your kids will thank you trust me.
My family stayed at The Great Wolf Lodge and it was a spectacular experience, to say the least. This place boasts its very own indoor water park perfect for all ages.
It is the largest indoor water park in the Carolinas and is open only to hotel guests so you don’t need to worry about long lines or overcrowding. The fun continues with an ice cream–themed Scoops Kid Spa, a 100-game arcade, interactive 18-hole outdoor miniature golf course and the live-action adventure game MagiQuest.
The Rooms themselves are so much fun to stay in, during our stay we opted to get the Wolf’s Den which features a fun children’s private bedroom. The kids switched out each night who slept in the bunk bed’s but overall had a blast in the room no matter where they slept. The girls, of course, called dibs on the bunk beds for the first night.
This location really has everything you need for an amazing time, it boasts its own restaurants and sweet treat stops. SpeedPark at Concord Mills
The SpeedPark in Concord Mills is your one-stop place for Go-Kart fun and so much more. The SpeedPark offers 4 Go Kart Tracks, Mini Golf, a 110 ft. Fun Slide, Bungee Jump, Spider Web, a game room, and Ice Skating. A family fun amusement park near Charlotte, NC at Concord Mills Mall.
My kids and I opted to get the Best Unlimited Everything which gave us access to all of the attractions as well as unlimited Go-Kart racing. With 4 different tracks, it made it easy for the kids to pick and choose which tracks they would like to race on.
Even better there were options for small racers to drive their own go-karts or for the little racers to join an adult racer.
The Bungee jumping had to be Esuun’s favorite attraction at the Speedpark, she was able to do as many backflips as she wanted.
While KeKe mastered the Spider Climb with ease and even helped Esuun figure out how to make it to the top. If you are planning to visit make sure to plan out at least 3-5 hours of seriously fun family time.
The whole family had a great time bungee jumping and competing in a friendly game of mini-golf. If you are planning to visit make sure to plan out at least 3-5 hours of seriously fun family time.
Sea Life Aquarium
Located directly next to the SpeedPark in Concord Mills Mall you can find the Sea Life Aquarium. The SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord transports visitors into the amazing underwater world. Prepare for astonishingly close views of everything from humble starfish to graceful rays and tropical sharks.
Make sure to find out what time of the feedings are as well as when you can hear from some of the staff about some fun facts about the sea creations.
With an amazing underwater 180° ocean tunnel, over 20 display tanks and more than 5,000 sea creatures, the aquarium is the perfect stop for family fun! To get any closer you would have to get wet! Featuring up close and interactive touch pool your undersea explorers can see what a sea star feels like. As well as how smooth a shell of a sea slug really is. Little Esuun really faced her fears by touching the shell of a sea slug with the help of her big brother Anthony of course.
I highly recommend you upgrade your tickets to Behind The Scenes tours. These tours offer a behind the scenes look at what makes this facility tick as well as an overview of one of the largest tanks in the aquarium. Hands down a fun experience and education for the whole family.
Where To Eat
In this booming city, you can find almost everything under the sun to eat. Visit Cabarrus County offers some great recommendations for you to choose from on their Website, but I’m going to tell you where we ate at. Of course what the Carolina’s are known for is their Bar-B-Q, so get ready to dive into some family friendly places to eat here.
The Smoke Pit
Just a few minutes from our Great Wolf Lodge we found this off the beaten path The Smoke Pit restaurant. With so many delicious options to choose from, it was a no-brainer we got the family sized combo platter. Their fresh and never frozen slow cook method is what this mom can get on board with.
This family-friendly restaurant is a great place to go for some amazing BBQ that won’t put a hole in your wallet. Just a tip when ordering your food, grab some extra cornbread, Malik loved it and devoured it only 2 minutes into receiving our tray.

Jim N’ Nicks Bar-B-Q
Jim N’ Nicks Bar-B-Q is amazing food at prices this mom was super happy about. The food here is good, the service is spectacular, and just a suggestion, get that hand squeezed every day all day long Lemonade. I had my socks knocked off with this lemonade and of course the food.
Good food + Good company + Good laughs = Memories that last a lifetime. @jimnnicksbbq in #NC is delicious! Homemade bbq done right ??- @VisitCabarrus #WhereRacingLives #ad #Travel #foodie pic.twitter.com/9xqjs5zYQm

Family style dining with that good food your whole family can love. The corn muffins are amazing here, they are filled with cheese and I could eat a whole basket to myself. If you love the cheese corn muffins as much as I did you can buy a bag to make at home.
OMG Donuts & Bakery
The OMG Donuts & Bakery is a quick stop only about a block away from The Great Wolf Lodge. I heard all good things about this place when I first stopped at the Vistors Center of Cabarrus County. I just had to make that our first breakfast in town.
— Jays SweetNSour Life (@SweetNSourDeals) June 22, 2018
This truly was an OMG moment when I tried their delicious fresh yeast donut that you can actually opt to fill in store. Buy a fillable donut and choose your own favorite filling. I only wish my stomach was big enough to hold more than 2 donuts at a time, so I could try them all. There are more than just donuts in this delicious destination, they offer Apple Fritters and so much more!
Those Maple Bacon Donuts were so worth the wait, I had to wait a whole extra day to try these because they sold out before I could get to them the morning before. Great Donuts at a price this mom could get on board with, perfect for big families and you can take them on the go.

Papa Robb’s Paradise Ice
Off the beaten path, you will find this Papa Robb’s Paradise Ice location. This place truly is a little paradise of its own featuring a little playground and ample space for a family to relax.
The menu is big and the treats are delicious, I noticed a lot of locals coming and just picking up a few things to take home to the kiddos. I loved the Mango Ice I picked, and the kids loved all of the flavors they choose. They currently have an apple pie ice cream special and OMG it really does taste like apple pie.
If you are looking for a fun place to visit with affordable treats that make the whole family happy. Make sure to add Papa Rob’s Paradise Ice to your list of things to do and things to eat while in town.
